Ryan Upchurch is now facing a new legal battle connected to the Kylie Rodni case.
In a recent filing in federal court, plaintiffs David Robertson and Daniel Rodni accuse Upchurch of violating a Protective Order by publicly releasing his full video deposition online. According to the motion, Upchurch uploaded the entire four hour deposition to his YouTube channel on Thanksgiving Day and also shared multiple clips on Instagram, where he has millions of followers.
The Protective Order in the case forbids anyone outside of the attorneys and the deponent from accessing deposition materials. By posting the video to the public, the plaintiffs say Upchurch openly broke the court’s rules. They also highlight that this is the same litigation tied to Upchurch’s accusations surrounding the disappearance and death of Kylie Rodni, a case that drew massive online attention.
The motion also calls out Upchurch for recent social media posts where he attacked the integrity of the federal judge, referring to the judge as a crooked official. Plaintiffs argue that these statements risk undermining the court, polluting the jury pool, and inflaming his large online audience.
Before filing the motion, plaintiffs say they contacted Upchurch’s attorney and asked that the videos be removed, but no action was taken.
The filing asks the court to take several steps. These include ordering Upchurch to delete the deposition and all related clips from every platform within twenty four hours, prohibiting him from posting any further deposition content, stopping him from making public statements about the testimony, and preventing him from making any more disparaging comments about the judge or attorneys. The plaintiffs also request attorney fees totaling two thousand five hundred dollars for the time spent preparing the motion. Ryan Upchurch Defendant PLAINTI…
In short, the plaintiffs argue that Upchurch intentionally violated the Protective Order and escalated matters with public comments against the court. They are asking the judge to step in immediately and impose sanctions to protect the integrity of the case connected to Kylie Rodni.
