This document is a legal complaint filed on February 25, 2025, in the Court of Common Pleas, Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, Horry County, South Carolina, by Plaintiff Jane Doe #1 against John-Paul Miller, Reginald Wayne Miller, All Nations Cathedral Church (formerly Cathedral Baptist Church of the Grand Strand, Inc.), and Solid Rock Ministries, Inc. You can listen to the complaint here.
JP Miller’s second wife, Mica Francis Miller, brought him into the national spotlight following her death on April 27, 2024. Mica, born in 1994, was 30 years old when she was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Lumber River State Park in North Carolina, a ruling confirmed by the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
The couple married in 2017 after a relationship that began under contentious circumstances. Mica had been part of Solid Rock Church since her teenage years, with some alleging that Miller, then in his late 20s, began “grooming” her when she was around 14 or 15, though these claims remain disputed. Prior to her death, Mica filed for divorce in October 2023, withdrew it in February 2024, and refiled on April 15, 2024, just 12 days before her suicide. She also sought a no-contact order against Miller, citing harassment and abuse, including allegations of him slashing her tires, tracking her car, and posting a topless photo of her online—claims he partially admitted to in an apology email.
The new lawsuit claims that Plaintiff Jane Doe #1 was sexually assaulted by John-Paul Miller in 1998 at age 15 and again in 2023, with memories of the initial assault suppressed until the later incident brought them to light. It accuses John-Paul Miller and his father, Reginald Wayne Miller, of exploiting their roles as religious leaders to commit and hide decades of sexual abuse against minors, enabled by inadequate protections within their churches.
The new allegations state that the Plaintiff alleges that John-Paul Miller sexually assaulted her in 1998 at age 15 and again in 2023, with the earlier incident repressed until triggered by the later assault. The complaint accuses both John-Paul and his father, Reginald Wayne Miller, of using their positions as religious leaders to perpetrate and conceal sexual abuse of minors over decades, facilitated by a lack of safeguards within their churches.
It claims the Defendants operated a single enterprise to enable predatory behavior, citing negligence, civil conspiracy, assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and violations of the South Carolina Unfair Trade Practices Act. The lawsuit demands a jury trial and seeks actual, compensatory, and punitive damages for the severe emotional and physical harm suffered by the Plaintiff.
